Eclectic Modern Home Remodel | Austin, TX

This 1970s Austin home underwent a complete transformation, reimagining both its layout and interior design to support modern family living better. Nearly every interior wall was removed, creating an open-concept floor plan that dramatically improved the home's flow, natural light, and connection between the main living spaces.

To reinforce the openness of the new layout, the kitchen ceiling was raised to match the living room's height, creating a single continuous architectural volume. The dining room wall was extended to better define the space while maintaining clear sightlines throughout the home.

The fireplace wall was intentionally designed as the home's focal point, as it is the first architectural feature seen upon entering. Clad in textured architectural stone typically used on exterior façades, it brings warmth, depth, and a bold visual statement that anchors the entire living space.

Throughout the home, natural materials, layered textures, custom details, and carefully selected artwork create an eclectic yet timeless aesthetic. Vintage and one-of-a-kind pieces were thoughtfully incorporated throughout the design, from the antique front doors, discovered at a local vintage shop and integrated into a custom-built entry closet, to the entry bench, which I reupholstered using a vintage Afghan blanket. In the living room, the vintage purple armchairs were also personally reupholstered, reflecting my belief that meaningful pieces are often worth preserving and reimagining rather than replacing.

The result is a bright, welcoming home that feels collected, timeless, and deeply personal, beautifully balancing architectural transformation with everyday comfort.
